Now Privately Held, Checkers Completes Deal to Buy Out Large Franchisee
In the past few months, Checkers Drive-In Restaurants, Inc. has completed the takeover of 62 restaurants from a large franchisee and finalized its merger with a New York private equity firm.
Checkers had sued former franchisee Titan Holdings LLC for breach of contract for unpaid royalty payments and other fees, and the companies settled the lawsuit in the spring, with Checkers agreeing to purchase the restaurants for $5.3 million. The purchase has now been completed, and Checkers is currently operating all the restaurants, said Kim Francis, director of communications for Checkers. 'We have taken possession of the stores, and the transition was transparent for our guests,' she said.
