Defense Contractor Employee Sentenced for Kickback Scheme
On Nov. 28, 57-year-old Nebraska McAlpine, a former employee of an unidentified U.S. government contractor in Kabul, Afghanistan, was sentenced to 21 months in prison for accepting over $250,000 in kickbacks in connection with the award of subcontracts to an Afghani company. McAlpine pleaded guilty on July 18 to a one-count information charging him with violating the Anti-Kickback Act.
McAlpine worked in Kabul as a Project Manager for the unnamed United States-based contractor from early 2014 to October 2016. As project manager, he was tasked with overseeing a variety of reconstruction-related contracts in and around Kabul. McAlpine's primary responsibility was to evaluate and recommend potential Afghani subcontractors.
