Gen AI Unlikely to Bring Down Law Firm Rates
Clients may hold out hope that the adoption of generative AI tools will bring down the rates they pay outside counsel, but a recent survey suggests they shouldn’t hold their breath.
The Thomson Reuters Institute’s 2025 Generative AI in Professional Services Report, published on April 15, suggests that law firms are unlikely to change their rates in response to gen AI in the short term.
Over half, 53% of law firm respondents expect rates to stay the same with gen AI, while a greater share expect them to increase somewhat or significantly (20%) than expect them to fall (7%).
