MA Lawmakers Reject Same-Sex Marriage Ban
By a margin of 157 to 39, Massachusetts legislators rejected a proposed constitutional amendment to ban same-sex marriage in the state on Sept. 14. The vote represents a major turnaround in 19 months, as the same proposed amendment was passed by a constitutional convention in March, 2004 by a vote of 105-92. With the defeat, the proposed amendment will not go on statewide ballot next year.
