FDA Starts Investigation of Contact Lens Solution

The source of the Fusarium keratitis eye infections could not be definitively tied to use of the solution, but Bausch & Lomb nonetheless advised consumers to stop using any of the product in their possession that came from the Greenville, SC, plant.
According to The New York Times, since Bausch & Lomb's announcement that it was withdrawing the solution from the market, an independent researcher commissioned by the company to investigate the source of the infections has determined that the microbes involved come from at least three genetically-separate families, making it unlikely that the source of the infections is the contact lens solution.
