No Connection Found Between Contact Lens Solutions and Infections
In May, the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) completed its preliminary investigation of Bausch & Lomb's Greenville, SC, plant ' the suspected source of the recent increased incidence of bacteria Fusarium keratitis infection in contact lens wearers ' and found no evidence that the jump in infections was due to contaminants in the company's ReNu with MoistureLoc contact lens cleaning solutions. Still, in a May 15 statement, the FDA expressed its support for Bausch & Lomb's decision to permanently pull the product from the market. Tests on the product, which are being conducted jointly by the FDA and the Centers for Disease Control, are ongoing.
