Donald Gaffney has been selected by the U.S. Bankruptcy Court as the court's first consumer privacy ombudsman. Congress created the new position as part of the bankruptcy law overhaul in 2005 and in response to efforts by companies like Toysmart.com to sell their customer database during bankruptcy proceedings.
The Consumer Privacy Ombudsman is charged with advising the court on issues relating to sales of personal information from the estate.
