Perkins Coie Chooses Shanghai's Tech District for New China Office

Perkins Coie will open its second China office in Shanghai's Zhangjiang Hi-Tech Park, an area some refer to as the Chinese Silicon Valley.

That location is not where U.S.-based firms typically set up shop in Shanghai, but Perkins wanted to be near many of its major pharmaceutical and technology clients, says James Zhu, a Los Angeles associate who works with the firm's China business.

“We believe in the Silicon Valley model where you have to be walking distance to your clients,” he says. “We are very proud to be there — it was a strategic decision.”
