Electronic Health Information Legislation Moves Forward
On July 27, Congress approved an amended version of Senate Bill 1418 that aims to move the country's health care medical records from paper to computer. House Bill 4157 differs from the Senate's version in that it calls for current medical privacy laws to apply to the new data storage format and asks the secretary of the Department of Health and Human Services to recommend to Congress a method for coordinating state and federal privacy laws.
