The Best of MLF 2006

By Elizabeth Anne 'Betiayn' Tursi
November 30, 2006

As 2006 comes to a close ' and in keeping with tradition ' we will take a look back at the topics that defined this past year in the areas of marketing, business development, media and, most recently, management issues.

In the past year, I have endeavored to expand the scope of topics covered in the newsletter. To accomplish this, I invited several people to write columns that target major areas of interest in our profession. This year, several new columns appeared, including Practice Building Skills, written by Evan and Chuck Polin, partners in The Training Resource Group. Evan and Chuck have written articles that provide a window into the world of coaching and training attorneys with a view toward enhancing marketing and business development skills. Chuck joined our Board of Editors. In March, we premiered a new column, Technology in Marketing, written by Joshua Fruchter and Nancy Manzo. Joshua, an attorney, is President and Co-founder of eLawMarketing, a provider of online marketing services to law firms and other professional service providers. Nancy Manzo is President of Manzo Marketing, Inc., a law firm consulting group. Both Joshua and Nancy are members of our Board of Editors. In August, in cooperation with the Legal Sales and Service Organization (and with special thanks to our Board member, Silvia Coulter), Sales and Service Strategies joined our list of regular columns and will feature information about sales and service excellence. In November, Corner Office, written by Mel Morrione, who joined our Board of Editors and is Managing Director of MSM Consulting and a former international tax partner with Arthur Andersen, had its first outing. This column will provide insight into the world of managing partners and how their role impacts marketing, business development, communications, growth and professional development. The Media & Communications column, written by Jaffe Associates, did a fabulous job of presenting a great series on media and communications executives in our profession. This series got rave reviews from our readership. I also wanted to mention that beginning in February, The Place To Network column will be written by Christy Burke, founder of Burke & Company.
